NLL, Opinion -

The National Lacrosse League playoffs have provided enough head scratching in one weekend to fill a whole playoff schedule. The only possible mysteries left to solve are if Rochester can win a game in Toronto or if the East will be able to stand down the West in a final game that will include one of two West teams with a dynamic defense. So how did we get here? Why are Philadelphia, Colorado and especially the heavily favored Roughnecks of Calgary looking on from the sidelines? Buy In. The teams play systems. Systems require that jobs be done to a...

Opinion, Senior -

I’m not too sure what will remain as the lasting memory of the 2015 Mann Cup but Game No. 2 was a black eye for the sport and robbed the fans and teams of a chance to play and display lacrosse at its highest level.  Some will argue that this game represented tough lacrosse and I’m afraid I may offend those who think this is what transpired. Recently, I've been forced to pay attention to the fact that Canada’s Blue Jays are the real deal and in competition for the East title of Major League Baseball’s American League East division.  Imagine the coverage the Blue Jays will get if they repeat history and win a championship. During the past two years of Canadian summer lacrosse I have grown closer to the box game than I have been since the 1980s and early 90s. For 25 years or more I was focused on playing and managing at the game's highest levels with that mindset. Senior lacrosse is a destination from years of playing minor lacrosse. It is quite a different game than the Junior game and levels below it.A new generation of lacrosse players has new gear and new choices, but the bottom line of passion for the game remains.Minor lacrosse is becoming more like hockey being...

NLL, Opinion -

The recent saga of Garrett Billings and the Toronto Rock was an eye opening gaze into the realities of what the NLL has become through evolution.  Here we had a player with a demand to play for a certain amount of pay plus bonuses and a team not willing to give in to any of his demands for its own reasons. Until a late offer from the Knighthawks, no other National Lacrosse League team came forward to offer the restricted free agent a contract. To me this was an indication that other NLL GMs didn't want to rock the boat...
