The position of the Indoor lacrosse goaltender has always been a tough proposition when looking at it from any side of the fence. How many people have ever played the position long enough to have a well developed perspective? Players, parents, coaches or even equipment managers are all working with incomplete degrees of understanding of the Box goalie job description. Most of them have no experience and apply their best guess as input but are armed with poor ideas of what it entails to be a goalie in Box Lacrosse. When trying to teach the goalie skills required to build...

This past weekend I caught a commercial for a new Christmas holiday movie Concussion. The whole world is being made aware of the issues with head injuries from sports to re-evaluate their own risk. The impending storm the NHL is facing looks grim. Without question, it will land it right where the NFL is, in the midst of a major lawsuit. The NLL need not worry about this right now. I do suspect in a few years there will be ex-players recounting their time in lacrosse while dealing with some symptoms of post traumatic head injury. It’s inevitable.  All of...

This past winter, I became immersed in a television show on FX called Sons of Anarchy or SOA. Two things about myself quickly: I’m not a TV guy and never have been but since I stopped playing and started having kids it has been non-existent. This series of an ex minor league baseball player turned teacher and then being forced into other work when layoffs hit gets pretty funny....

Watching the Olympics on Monday afternoon, I happened across the Canadian women’s soccer match with the USA. The game built to a fury of goal-trading and aggressive tackles and was everything a semifinal sports match should be. It had all the makings of many great lacrosse games I have seen or been a part of, including the dreaded X factor that came into play. That controversial call by the referees! Amateur sports like soccer and lacrosse or are plagued with these issues. The NHL playoffs were full of controversy and rough play, but 85% of the infractions were handled seamlessly...

The whole Canadian Lacrosse world has been working through the evolution of the regulations of our sport the past couple of years. New rules for goaltending equipment and net sizes hit us up a few years back. These days, face masks or head gear have become the centerpiece of an ongoing dilemma of what the rank and file has been asked to endure. I need to make something clear. I design and manufacturer lacrosse equipment and have been doing so for 25 years. I designed the face mask that revolutionized box lacrosse face masks back in 1999-2000 that is still...
